Title
Description
The Small Research Grants on Education Program supports education research projects that aim to contribute to the improvement of education through rigorous, intellectually ambitious, and technically sound studies. The program focuses on supporting research that is relevant to the most pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education, accepting proposals that are field-initiated without restrictions on specific research topics, disciplines, designs, methods, or locations. The program is designed to fund research projects only and does not support activities such as program evaluations without a significant research component, professional development programs, curricula or assessment tool creation without significant research, scholarships, capital projects, or software development. Proposals must be focused on education research, and research in other areas is not eligible. The objectives of the program include funding education research projects with budgets up to $50,000 for projects ranging from one to five years, encouraging research that is both intellectually ambitious and technically sound, and prioritizing studies that address pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education. The program accepts proposals from both U.S. and international applicants, with the requirement that all submissions be in English and that all budgets be proposed in U.S. dollars. Applications are accepted twice per year, offering researchers around the world an opportunity to pursue innovative and impactful education research. Eligible applicants must hold an earned doctorate in an academic discipline or professional field, with graduate students allowed to participate as part of the research team but not as principal investigators (PIs) or co-principal investigators (Co-PIs). The PI must be affiliated with a non-profit or public/governmental organization capable of administering the grant, such as non-profit or public colleges, universities, school districts, research facilities, or other organizations with recognized non-profit status. The program does not award grants directly to individuals.
