Description
The SENSE Foundation Brussels invites applications from eligible non-profit organisations and students for projects and initiatives that advance research, sustainability, health, and inclusion in Belgium and abroad. The Foundation supports scientific research, the environment, sustainable development, and projects focused on improving and protecting health with a specific emphasis on genetics and nutrition; supports students who study or conduct research in genetics, nutrition, environment protection, sustainable development, and specific arts and culture areas but lack sufficient financial resources through merit- and need-based scholarships; and provides ad hoc assistance to charitable organisations helping people facing specific or temporary hardship. Inclusion, equality, and diversity are core values, with particular attention to projects carried by or benefiting women and minorities, and preference for Women in STEM when awarding student grants. The Foundation provides financial contributions of up to €25,000, covering a maximum of 25% of the total annual cost of the project, including staff costs where applicable. If awarded, no more than 10% of the grant may be allocated to overhead expenses. Grants are generally one-off and non-recurring, except for funds awarded to universities that provide grants to their students. Eligible organisations must be legally registered non-profits with at least 24 months of activity track record. Projects should be impactful and clearly aligned with the Foundation’s objectives, with a well-defined description of the needs addressed, expected positive impact, and effective use of funds. Grants are intended for projects lasting between 9 and 12 months, implemented between summer 2026 and summer 2027, although this period may form part of a broader multi-year initiative. Only one application per organisation per calendar year is permitted. Organisations with overhead ratios exceeding 20% are not eligible. Overheads include costs such as human resources, advertising, and fundraising campaigns but exclude staff directly engaged in project implementation. Applications will also be excluded if organisations have failed to submit required impact reports for previous grants, if projects are misaligned with the Foundation’s objectives, if submissions are incomplete, or if the project has previously been rejected. Commercial sponsorship requests, sponsorship of sports or cultural events, fundraising activities for NGOs or charitable causes, and projects directly affiliated with political or religious organisations or promoting a specific ideology are not supported.
