Description
The AWIU Global Micro-Grants program supports grassroots initiatives that strengthen the work and wellbeing of women in low and middle income countries. The program focuses on projects related to education, health, and entrepreneurial development, with an emphasis on women-led initiatives that are concrete, time-limited, and capable of producing measurable and scalable outcomes. Central to its mission, AWIU has evolved from funding individual women’s study opportunities to supporting grassroots women’s groups through micro-grants since 2008. These grants are designed to enhance the wellbeing of women by supporting short-term, practical projects that address key development areas such as education, skill-building, health, and entrepreneurship. The program prioritizes initiatives that are clearly defined and can be completed within a period of 12 months or less. Projects supported under this program are expected to demonstrate measurable impact, ensuring that outcomes can be quantified and assessed effectively. Additionally, AWIU gives preference to initiatives that have the potential to create a multiplier effect, meaning the benefits extend beyond the immediate participants to wider communities. Eligible projects must request funding of no more than USD 3,000 and are required to provide two verifiable references as part of the application process. By focusing on small-scale yet impactful interventions, the AWIU Global Micro-Grants program plays a significant role in empowering women’s groups and fostering sustainable community development across diverse regions.
