Title
Description
The Laerdal Foundation is now accepting grant applications to support initiatives that can reduce preventable deaths and improve outcomes around the time of birth. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate impact beyond the local level, showing potential for long-term practical value and the ability to inspire improvements in other regions or countries. Innovative approaches to more efficient education and implementation, as well as collaborative initiatives that scale up proven concepts, are particularly encouraged. Projects must take place in the Foundation’s focus countries, which include Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. The Foundation expects to fund up to 20 projects annually in this category, with grants of up to USD 50,000 per project and an average award of approximately USD 30,000. Eligible applications must have a research component and focus on preventing avoidable deaths from sudden cardiac arrest, trauma, or during birth. This initiative offers an opportunity to support practical, life-saving research that can create lasting improvements in maternal and newborn health in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. Applicants should present a realistic budget, including up to 10% for institutional overhead or administration related to the project. If the total project budget exceeds the grant amount, the Board will consider the likelihood of securing additional funding from other sources. Practical experience in low-resource settings and strong engagement from local partners are important factors in the evaluation process. Institutions may submit a maximum of two applications per year, with deadlines on April 1 and October 1, and all applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s application platform.
